Curtains are known as the “flirtatious decorator” in home decor, as they determine the color and tone of the overall home facade.
In the past, when we bought curtains, we only required them to have a certain degree of shading and privacy functions. Later on, we began to pay attention to the fabric and style. Nowadays, we look for curtains with high appearance value and style and consider their production technology, functionality, and even environmental protection when selecting curtains.
Regardless of the choice of fabric material and style and color of the curtains, we hope that it can always be a bonus to the home environment. However, with the erosion of sunlight and the environment, and the impact of washing, curtains hanging for a long time will inevitably gradually lose their original shiny and beautiful image, and even affect the overall appearance. Therefore, a kind of memory-shaped curtain has emerged, relying on its consistent appearance and excellent additional skills, becoming the darling of the curtain industry.
OCD’s favorite curtain
Memory-shaped curtains (MEMORY CURTAINS), also known as high-temperature fixed-shaped curtains, as the name suggests, are a curtain fabric shaping process through high-temperature treatment, which can make the fabric maintain a neat and orderly shape without relying on external support.
Traditional handmade curtains produced in family workshops usually use manual sewing techniques. Since there is no overall shaping equipment, the curtains cannot be shaped as a whole, resulting in uneven folds, inconsistent upper and lower parts, and an overall unsightly appearance. Especially after cleaning, they are easily wrinkled and even shrink, which can drive OCD patients crazy.
In contrast, curtains shaped by high-temperature treatment have undergone physical shaping and anti-static treatment before leaving the factory. They have a neat and orderly overall shape and consistent fold shapes from top to bottom. They can maintain their straight and upright shape even after machine washing several times. They are not only the favorite of OCD patients but also a blessing for lazy people.
How curtains have memory
The shaping process of memory-shaped curtains uses advanced production equipment and high-temperature and high-pressure steam shaping treatment to change the molecular structure of the curtains at a certain pressure and temperature, stabilize the appearance, shape, and size of the fabric, improve the tension and strength of the fabric, and eliminate static electricity and uneven stress in various parts. It also improves the product’s feel, reduces the fabric’s shrinkage rate, and enhances its elasticity and wear resistance. Since this method uses high-temperature treatment, it is called high-temperature shaping.
The entire high-temperature shaping process can be divided into four stages:
Heating stage:
The curtain fabric is placed flat on the wave-shaped mold of a horizontal boiler, and the surface of the fabric is heated to the shaping temperature of about 130℃.
Thermal balance stage:
In a completely enclosed boiler, heat energy penetrates the fiber of the fabric, so that the surface and the inside of the fiber reach the same shaping temperature.
Transformation and molecular adjustment stage:
High-temperature and high-pressure steam is applied for 90-150 minutes, and the fiber molecules of the fabric are rearranged under tension. Applying tension can promote the fabric to stretch out smoothly, improve the shaping effect, enhance the fabric’s crisp and smooth effect, and improve its elasticity and wear resistance.
Cooling stage:
The fabric is rapidly cooled before leaving the boiler, and the shape of the fabric is fixed according to its new molecular structure state.
The self-improvement of good curtains
After being shaped by high temperature and high-pressure steam, the curtains can achieve a permanent shaping effect, with natural and beautiful curved transitions between pleats. When hung up, they have a great drape and can enhance the overall home decoration, becoming a permanent art piece in the home.
However, having a good appearance is not enough. In 2020, as a pursuing product, functionality, easy maintenance, and environmental friendliness are all essential, and in this regard, memory-shaped curtains are also a powerful contender.
Not only do they need to be beautiful, but they also need to have texture.
Traditional techniques only go through ordinary wrinkle prevention, and curtains that have not undergone high-temperature shaping treatment, while able to maintain the delicate, smooth, and clean texture of the fabric at the beginning, are difficult to maintain a straight and neat visual beauty in the long term due to inadequate sagging.
On the other hand, the fabric treated with high-temperature and high-pressure steam changes the molecular structure inside the fabric, making the overall color more vivid, and the touch soft and smooth. The hanging effect is graceful and the wavy pleats are neat and orderly, which looks more elegant. At the same time, it also has the advantages of being anti-yellowing, anti-wrinkle, anti-static, wear-resistant, breathable, moisture-absorbing, and easy to clean.
It can be machine washed and does not require ironing.
Cleaning curtains is a big trouble. Although washing with a washing machine is simple, it causes great damage to the curtains. Hand washing is gentle on the curtains but hard on oneself. Moreover, any cleaning method for traditional techniques will damage the fibers on the fabric to varying degrees, such as decreased shading, deformation, and shrinkage.
The high-temperature-shaped curtains increase the tension and strength of the fabric, making every pleat of the curtains maintain a straight and neat appearance without external support. Even if roughly cleaned with a washing machine, it can be shaken dry and hung up without ironing, and it can be restored to its original state with a light touch. In addition, the preshrinking process reduces the fabric’s shrinkage rate, so even if washed repeatedly, there will be no problems with shrinkage or deformation.
High-temperature sterilization is more environmentally friendly.
We know that floors, wallpaper, and paint are all major sources of formaldehyde pollution in homes, and surprisingly, curtains are also hidden killers. To make the fabric color bright, wrinkle-resistant, and increase the hanging feeling, various finishing agents and dyes containing formaldehyde are added during the traditional curtain-making process. The curtains hanging in the window are exposed to direct sunlight for a long time, and when the temperature rises, they will continuously release pollutants such as formaldehyde. The only solution is to wash and ventilate them multiple times for half a year, but they face the dilemma of shrinkage and deformation once washed.
In contrast, the curtain fabric shaped by high temperature and pressure goes through a purely physical process without the use of any chemicals or harmful substances. During the high-temperature and high-pressure process, it can also disinfect and kill bacteria, eliminate harmful formaldehyde, and is more environmentally friendly, healthy, safe, and reassuring.
